Art-in-a-Box
Art Knows No Borders
What began as a simple exchange of ideas between classrooms became something much larger: a celebration of creativity, culture, language, and friendship spanning two countries.
"Programs like Art in a Box help students see that their ideas, stories, and creativity matter beyond the walls of their classroom. It has been inspiring to watch them connect with peers in another country while building confidence, curiosity, and pride in their own heritage."
~ Jaime Santos, Principal, Vista Del Monte Elementary School
Through Palm Springs Sister Cities' Art in a Box program, 98 students from Vista Del Monte Elementary School in Palm Springs and Newland School in San Miguel de Allende explored architecture, art, and cultural identity while connecting with peers who share many of the same traditions, experiences, and aspirations. Supported by a City of Palm Springs Community Grant, the program provided students with a unique opportunity to learn from one another while building meaningful cross-border friendships.
The impact extended far beyond the classroom. Local and international media outlets, educators, community leaders, and families helped share the students' work and stories, highlighting the power of educational exchange and cultural diplomacy.
Below you'll find news stories, interviews, videos, and social media coverage documenting this inspiring program and the students who brought it to life.
